1. Define local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN). What network(s) does Trinity have?

LAN- small network that allows computers to communicate. Trinity has hundreds of LANs. WAN- network that geographically links computers over cities, states, or even countries. A WAN is typically made up of many smaller LANs.

Q- Where is your user folder on Y located? Why is it a good idea to keep a copy of your important documents on your Y drive?

A- Physically it is located in Halsell, but it is also located on a server. It is important to use it because the Y drive is backed up every night.

4. What is a server? How many servers does Trinity have?  Does the same server handle your Ydrive, Trinity email and the TU webpages?

A server is a high powered desktop machine.  The purpose of a server is to allow communication between computers.  It is a repository of information and materials that can be delivered to your computer.  Trinity has 100+ servers.  There are different servers for every aspects of the resources available on the TU network, so different servers would handle your Ydrive, Trinity email, and the TU webpages.

The way we connect to the internet is our computer connected though either the wireless router or the ethernet port it then is connected to the patch panel through ethernet cables and then to the switch that then through fiber-optics goes to the hasel computer building and then still through fiber-optics it goes to the cobby-racey building.
